The South Jersey Pops is more than just a talented group of musicians; they're the heart and soul of our community. Founded right here in Medford over 50 years ago, this dedicated ensemble of volunteer musicians from across South Jersey pours their passion and expertise into every performance, creating a truly unique and heartwarming experience for audiences of all ages.

"Music has this magical ability to bring people together," says Shannon Halvorson, President of the South Jersey Pops Orchestra. "The Pops isn’t just an orchestra; it’s a family of musicians and music lovers, all driven by a common goal: to create unforgettable experiences through our performances."
And this Sunday's concert will be no exception. Prepare to be transported to iconic movie scenes with beloved scores from films like Wicked (featuring vocalists Alix Gibbins & Jill Bradshaw), Star Wars, and The Lord of the Rings. The orchestra will also feature popular themes from modern action & adventure blockbusters, ensuring a program that appeals to both seasoned film buffs and newcomers alike.
Speaking of "popular," that's exactly what the South Jersey Pops is all about! Instead of traditional classical music, a pops orchestra brings you recognizable tunes and will even wow you with stellar vocalist accompaniments which you would not see in a traditional orchestral or philharmonic concert. Maestro Rob Bradshaw, who leads the orchestra with passion and precision, works diligently each season to bring a unique, interactive, and captivating concert to our community. You really don't want to miss a single performance – they do not disappoint! The Pops also welcomes well-behaved children; bring your kids (children have discounted ticket prices) and give them the gift of experiencing live music so count this as a family friendly event!
On a personal level, The South Jersey Pops hold a very special place in my heart. I joined back in 2000 when I first moved to Medford. A kind gentleman named Frank Salicandro, the founder and Medford legend, overheard that I played the cello and insisted I join. Making quick friends with Frank, I obliged, and I'm so glad I did! Eventually, time constraints, work, and youthful folly caused me to leave the orchestra after about three years, but I rejoined in 2009, and have had the privilege of playing with the Pops ever since.
I've watched this group grow and evolve, and I can categorically say it has never been better! Our performances are creative, inspired, and entertaining. I always say that of all the places I give my time to, the South Jersey Pops is the only one that gives more than it takes. I enjoy my time with the Pops tremendously, and I'm proud of what we have become and the music we create together – not only do we put on a fabulous show, but I have made friendships to last a lifetime in this group, and also have my best friend playing with us in the second violin section, how lucky am I? If you come out to the concert on Sunday, and I hope you do, look for me in the cello section! I am principal cellist, though the entire section is absolutely spectacular! (the whole orchestra is, but obv I have my favorites! lol)
